A panel of well recognized experts has discussed about usage of temporary brachytherapy (High-Dose rate) to treat gynecological, head & neck tumors, as well as ocular melanoma treated by local implants. Some of the other subjects were covering the trends in prostate cancer treatment, such as the latest developments in permanent prostate brachytherapy.
During the meeting, IBt Bebig provided a platform to the participants to share their scientific, clinical and practical experiences.
"We are very pleased to have gathered together so many scientists in Brussels for our User Group meeting to discuss the trends and the future of brachytherapy. The success of the meeting clearly confirms the European leadership of IBt Bebig in its field. And I am looking forward to repeat this experience in the future," commented François Blondel, Chief Executive Officer of IBt Bebig.
"The success of this User Group meeting, with a large audience of 150 specialists, unequivocally proves the regularly increasing interest to treat localized prostate cancers with permanent or temporary radioactive implants. During this meeting, we have been able to present, both from the literature data and also from our own experience of more than 2200 treated cases, excellent long-term results for the treatment of prostate cancer with permanent implants - both in terms of (high) tumor control and in terms of (low) long-term toxicity," said Professor Jean-Marc Cosset, Radiation Oncology, Institut Curie, Paris.
About IBt Bebig
... Contributing to saving lives!
The IBt Bebig group is a European based group, active in the Medical Device segment of the Health Care sector.
The core business of the IBt Bebig group is the cancer treatment by radiation technology. Its specificity is the treatment of cancer by brachytherapy, a technique which consists of placing a sealed implant containing a minuscule quantity of a radioactive isotope in the body, on either a temporary or on a permanent basis. Depending on the application, the implant can take the shape of a plaque, a seed or a catheter. The precise positioning of the implant allows the cancer cells to be destroyed while sparing the healthy tissues and increasing the patient's quality of life. Today, the alternative brachytherapy procedures cover the non-invasive treatment of cancers of the prostate, neck, head and eye, as well as certain gynecological cancers.
The IBt Bebig group employs over 150 people and has entities in Germany, France, United Kingdom, Spain, Italy and India. Its Head Office is located in Seneffe, Belgium and the company has been listed on the Euronext stock exchange since April 1997 (Reuters : IBTH.BR - Bloomberg : IBTB BB).
